Two types of macular degeneration

Dry Form: This form of Macular Degeneration is predominantly characterized by yellow deposit formation in the macula that is called the drusen. It is considerable fact that few drusen will not affect the vision a lot, as they grow in number and size it may lead to deterioration of the vision especially when reading. The light cell layer in the macula starts thinning in the advanced stages of dry Macular Degeneration. This advanced form of dry macular degeneration leads to tissue death or atrophy. Due  to the further deteriorate in the condition, there is possibility of losing vision in the central part of the eye.

Wet Form: The wet form of macular degeneration is predominantly characterized by abnormal blood vessels growing under the macula from the choroid. This condition is known as choroidal neovascularization. In this form of macular degeneration the blood vessels that are formed start leaking fluid and blood into the retina. This type of condition leads to distortion in the vision. Straight lines start looking wavy and several blind spots can be seen. The blood vessel may break and begins to eventually form a scar that may lead to a permanent loss of vision.

Macular degeneration is a type of eye disorder that is usually found in people above the age of 60 years and is often referred to as age-related macular degeneration. Age related macular degeneration is considered to be hereditary so people without any history of macular degeneration can also get the condition. People with a history of macular degeneration in their family may have a higher risk of getting it which is why they need to be more careful. It is usually passed on from parents to their children.

Smoking, high blood pressure, and obesity are some of the other reasons that cause this problem. Besides, those people who have lighter colored eyes are also at a higher risk of suffering from macular degeneration.

Symptoms

As there are very few symptoms shown by macular degeneration since the macular degeneration cure does not exist. Visiting an eye doctor for regular eye examinations is helpful for the treatment of your eyes at an early stage. There are some of the main symptoms of this condition include blurry vision and changed color perception.
